Hi, I'm the owner and operator of Alpha-Geek.com and the author of me•Alpha-Geek•com, Jeremy Smith (born 1979), a freelance web developer and web standards advocate who lives around Cleveland, OH.
I work as a Middleware Engineer at Case Western Reserve University. (So I would like to take this time to express that Alpha-Geek.com and me•Alpha-Geek•com are personal sites and nothing on them is affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Case Western.)
My real passion is developing for the web.
I do some web work at Case Western having created:
Most of the time, though, I work in the Digital Identity arena:
- Built Case Western's Identity Management System (heavy on the LDAP).
- Setup CAS, a Single Sign On framework, and integrated Case Western's web resources with it.
- Integrated CAS with the following "Federated Identity" protocols:
- Shibboleth — shibb.case.edu
- OpenID — (an example) jeremy.smith.id.case.edu
- Google Apps SAML 2.0
- Oracle's
mod_ossoSingle Sign On system - Sun's Liberty Alliance
Yes, I am available for consulting or contract work. Contact me via email at jeremy@alpha-geek.com, and we'll work something out. I am skilled with many programming languages and (as mentioned above) I am a strong web standards advocate.† You can see an example of my work at http://demo.alpha-geek.com.
If you are looking for information on the site me•Alpha-Geek•com or are wondering what happened to the old contents of the old Alpha-Geek.com, check the colophon.
- † Yes, I do the Perl thing, the PHP thing, the Ruby thing, unobtrusive Javascript; I've got Apache, Mongrel, lighttpd covered. Fully comfortable around most databases including MySQL and PostgreSQL. Had experiences (good and bad) with many MVC web frameworks.
